INclude uses these guiding principles to inform our work:
- draw on a person’s strengths and potential- we focus on the person, not the ‘pathology’
- activate a person’s awareness that they can lead a meaningful, purposeful life
- ensure culturally competent support
- promote a person’s sense of physical and emotional safety
- include the person’s family as part of the treatment team where appropriate
- ensure that a range of holistic care options for the mind, body and spirit are offered
- project a culture of kindness, respect and open, honest communication
- promise a non-restrictive environment whenever possible
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Everybody's journey is unique.
The principle of person-first care also includes longer-term thinking:
- ensuring that the person is assisted in systems navigation and referred to appropriate services that are providing collaborative care
- ensure that GPS navigators are following up, checking in, or meeting as necessary to ensure the the person’s re-engagement with life
- ensures that the person has a meaningful, purposeful life and lives in a safe place of their choice where they can be a valued and contributing member of their community.
- helps establish sustainable results of recovery and resilience, ensuring people are connected through the GPS to services like housing, employment, legal services and other supports as needed.
